Insook
Hwang was born and raised in South Korea.
She
earned an M.E. (major in Art Education) at Seoul National Universtiy in
1994 in Korea and
an M.F.A. (major in Painting, minor in
Sculpture) degree at City College of New York in 1999 in United States.
She’s
had nine solo exhibitions in both Korea
and the U.S., and
participated
in two major International Contemporary Arts Exhibitions (The Busan
Biennale 2002 in Korea / Executive director - Kim Airyung,
The Officina Asia 2004 in Italy / Executive director - Renato Barilli).
She has exhibited her work at Artspace in New Haven
where she has lived since moving back to the U.S.
from Korea
in 2006. As an
adjunct professor, she taught
a
Mixed
media class at Albertus
Magnus College in 2010 and a
'Digital and Mixed media class' at Educational Center for the Arts from
2008 to 2010 in New Haven. She is a
recipient of a 2010 Artist Fellowship Grant from Connecticut Commission
on
Culture & Tourism.
